Keynote Speakers for ICCC 2019

Prof. Ryuji KOHNO, IEEE Fellow, Yokohama National University, Japan

Talk title: Medical Healthcare Platform of Dependable Network and Deep Learning for Medical Big Data 

Biography: Ryuji Kohno received the Ph.D. degree from the University of Tokyo in 1984. Since 1998 he has been a Professor of the Division of Physics, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and the Director of Research Center for Novel Medical Systems Based on Interdisciplinary Research between Social and Natural Sciences, Yokohama National University and a chair of Kanagawa Medical Device Regulatory Science Consortium in Japan since 2016. In his currier he was a director of Advanced Telecommunications Laboratory of SONY CSL during 1998-2002, a director of UWB Technology institute of National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) during 2002-2006, and that of Medical ICT institute of NICT during 2006-2012. Since 2012 he is CEO of University of Oulu Research Institute Japan – CWC-Nippon Co. In his academic activities, he was elected as a member of the Board of Governors of IEEE Information Theory (IT) Society in 2000, 2003 and 2006. He has played a role of an editor of the IEEE Transactions on IT, Communications, and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). He is fellows of IEEE and IEICE, and was vice-president of Engineering Sciences Society of IEICE, the Chairmen of the IEICE Technical Committee on Spread Spectrum Technology, Intelligent Transport System (ITS), and Software Defined Radio (SDR), Medical ICT, Reliable Robust Controlling Communications, and Regulatory Science. Prof. Kohno has contributed for organizing many international conferences, such as a chair-in honor of International Conferences SDR02 & 03, a general co-chair of International Symposia such as ISIT03, UWBST&IWUWB04, IWUWBST05, ISMICT2006, 2014, 2015 & 2018, ISITA2010/ISSSTA2010 and more. He was awarded IEICE Greatest Contribution Award and NTT DoCoMo Mobile Science Award in 1999 and 2002, respectively. He became a Finnish Distinguished Professor (FiDiPro) during 2007-2011 and is Oulu University Distinguished Professor (OuDiPro) since 2011. He was a principal leader of MEXT Global COE (Center of Excellence) program on “Innovative Integration between Medicine and Engineering Based on ICT,” during 2008-2013 and JSPS/AMED-TEKES joint program on Life Science during 2013-2015 to promote joint research and education between Finland and Japan. He has been a director of Kanagawa Medical Device Regulatory Science Center sponsored by Kanagwa Prefecture during 2014-2019.

 

Prof. Ke Wu, IEEE Fellow, Polytechnique Montreal, Canada

Talk title: Wireless Technology – Game-Changing Solution for Communicating, Sensing and Powering 

Biography: Dr. Ke Wu is Professor of Electrical Engineering at Polytechnique Montreal (University of Montreal). He holds the NSERC-Huawei Industrial Research Chair in Future Wireless Technologies (the first Huawei-endowed Chair in the world). He has been the Director of the Poly-Grames Research Center. He was the Canada Research Chair (2002-2016) in RF and millimeter-wave engineering and the Founding Director (2008-2014) of the Center for Radiofrequency Electronics Research of Quebec. Dr. Wu is also with the School of Information Science and Engineering, Ningbo University, on leave from his home institution, leading a 5G and future wireless research program. He has authored/co-authored over 1300 referred papers, and a number of books/book chapters and more than 50 patents. Dr. Wu was the general chair of the 2012 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium (the largest IEEE annual conference). He was the 2016 President of the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S). He also serves as the inaugural North-American representative in the General Assembly of the European Microwave Association (EuMA). He was the recipient of many awards and prizes including the inaugural IEEE MTT-S Outstanding Young Engineer Award, the 2004 Fessenden Medal of the IEEE Canada, the 2009 Thomas W. Eadie Medal from the Royal Society of Canada (The Academies of Arts, Humanities and Sciences of Canada), the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, the 2013 Award of Merit of Federation of Chinese Canadian Professionals, the 2014 IEEE MTT-S Microwave Application Award, the 2014 Marie-Victorin Prize (Prix du Québec – the highest distinction of Québec in the Natural Sciences and Engineering), the 2015 Prix d’Excellence en Recherche et Innovation of Polytechnique Montréal, the 2015 IEEE Montreal Section Gold Medal of Achievement and the 2019 IEEE MTT-S Microwave Prize. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE) and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. He was an IEEE MTT-S Distinguished Microwave Lecturer from Jan. 2009 to Dec. 2011.

     

Prof. Guohong Cao, IEEE Fellow, The Pennsylvania State University, USA

Talk title: Video Analytics through Edge Computing 

Biography: Guohong Cao (http://www.cse.psu.edu/~gcao) is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University. His research interests include wireless networks, mobile systems, wireless security and privacy, and Internet of Things. He has published more than 200 papers which have been cited over 20000 times, with an h-index of 75. He has served on the editorial board of IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, and IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, and has served on the organizing and technical program committees of many conferences, including the TPC Chair/Co-Chair of IEEE SRDS, MASS, and INFOCOM. He has received several best paper awards, the IEEE INFOCOM Test of Time award, and the NSF CAREER award. He is a Fellow of the IEEE.

 

Prof. Danny Hin-Kwok TSANG, IEEE Fellow, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hongkong

Talk title: Online Resource Allocation with Supply Costs: Pricing, Competitive Analysis, and Applications

Biography: Danny H.K. Tsang (M’82-SM’00-F’12) received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Moore School of Electrical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, U.S.A., in 1989. Upon graduation, he joined the Department of Computer Science at Dalhousie University in Canada. He later joined the Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 1992 and is now a professor in the department. He was a Guest Editor for IEEE Journal of Selected Areas in Communications’ special issue on Advances in P2P Streaming Systems, an Associate Editor for Journal of Optical Networking published by the Optical Society of America, and a special issue Guest Editor for IEEE Systems Journal, Transactions on Industrial Informatics, Communications Magazine, and Network Magazine. He currently serves as Technical Editor for IEEE Communications Magazine. He was nominated to become an IEEE Fellow in 2012 and an HKIE Fellow in 2013. During his leave from HKUST in 2000-2001, Dr. Tsang assumed the role of Principal Architect at Sycamore Networks in the United States. He was responsible for the network architecture design of Ethernet MAN/WAN over SONET/DWDM networks. He invented the 64B/65B encoding (US Patent No.: US 6,952,405 B2) and contributed it to the proposal for Transparent GFP in the T1X1.5 standard that was advanced to become the ITU G.GFP standard. The coding scheme has now been adopted by International Telecommunication Union (ITU)’s Generic Framing Procedure recommendation GFP-T (ITU-T G.7041/Y.1303)) and Interfaces for the Optical Transport Network (ITU-T G.709). His current research interests include cloud computing, edge computing, NOMA networks, and smart grids.

     

Prof. Alex X. Liu, IEEE Fellow, Michigan State University, USA

Talk title: Signal Processing Approaches to Sensing without Sensors 

Biography: Alex Liu received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from The University of Texas at Austin in 2006, and is a professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Michigan State University. He received the IEEE & IFIP William C. Carter Award in 2004, a National Science Foundation CAREER award in 2009, and the Michigan State University Withrow Distinguished Scholar Award in 2011. He has served as an Editor for IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, and he is currently an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing and IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, and an Area Editor for Computer Communications. He has served as the TPC Co-Chair for ICNP 2014 and IFIP Networking 2019. He received Best Paper Awards from ICNP-2012, SRDS-2012, and LISA-2010. His research interests focus on networking and security. He is a Fellow of the IEEE.

   

Prof. Jian Tang, IEEE Fellow, Syracuse University, USA

Talk title: Al-enabled Experience-driven Networking: Vision, State-of-the-Art and Future Directions 

Biography: Dr. Jian Tang is a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Syracuse University and an IEEE Fellow. He received his Ph.D degree in Computer Science from Arizona State University in 2006. His research interests lie in the areas of Machine Learning, IoT, Wireless Networking, Big Data Systems and Cloud Computing. Dr. Tang has published over 140 papers in premier journals and conferences. He received an NSF CAREER award in 2009. He also received several best paper awards, including the 2019 William R. Bennett Prize and the 2019 TCBD (Technical Committee on Big Data) Best Journal Paper Award from IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc), the 2016 Best Vehicular Electronics Paper Award from IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS), and Best Paper Awards from the 2014 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC) and the 2015 IEEE Global Communications Conference (Globecom) respectively. He has served as an editor for several IEEE journals, including IEEE Transactions on Big Data, IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, etc. In addition, he served as a TPC co-chair for a few international conferences, including the IEEE/ACM IWQoS’2019, MobiQuitous’2018, IEEE iThings’2015. etc.; as the TPC vice chair for the INFOCOM’2019; and as an area TPC chair for INFOCOM 2017-2018. He is also an IEEE VTS Distinguished Lecturer, and the Vice Chair of the Communications Switching and Routing Committee of IEEE ComSoc.

Introduction of Key Lab of Cloud Computing & Intelligent Technology

 

Welcome to Key Lab of Cloud Computing & Intelligent Technology, Southwest Jiaotong University, Chengdu, Sichuan Province, 610031, China. The Key Lab of Cloud Computing and Intelligent Technology (CCIT), Sichuan Province, carries out research on the theories, applications and product development of intelligent information processing to serve the national strategy and aim at the international frontier. It has established a wide range of cooperation and exchanges with the domestic and foreign universities, research institutes and enterprises. It makes efforts to cultivate inter-disciplinary talents with big data thinking, cloud computing capabilities and international vision. 

Presently, it has 23 PhD students (including 8 foreign students) and more than 80 MA.Eng students (including 3 foreign students). Over 200 papers have been published in the international journals, e.g., IEEE TKDE, IEEE TEC, IEEE TFS, IEEE TIFS, IEEE ASLP, IEEE TIE, IEEE TC, IEEE TVT and first-tier domestic journals, e.g., SCIENCE CHINA Information Sciences, Chinese Journal of Computers, Journal of Software, Journal of Computer Research and Development, Acta Electronica Sinica, Journal on Communications, as well as international conferences, e.g., KDD, IJCAI, SDM. I paper was selected as the ESI hot paper and 7 papers were ESI highly cited papers. More than 30 papers were in the first or second levels of CAS partition. 6 monographs, 9 SCI journal special issues, 1 EI journal special issue and 16 international conference proceedings have been published. Over a hundred of graduate students (including 6 Post-Docs, 9 Doctors) have been trained. 

Their employment units include Microsoft Research Asia, Sichuan University, Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent and Huawei. They have received 2 “Si Shi Yang Hua” Medals, Best Papers/Dissertation Awards 11 times, Champion of Sina Weibo Interaction-prediction at Tianchi Big Data Competition (Bonus 200,000 RMB) and the First Place of National Contests several times. CCIT has a "Dual Doctoral Degree Program" with University of Technology Sydney, Australia. Its members have visited Stanford University, University of California, Berkeley, Georgia State University, University of Waterloo, University of Alberta, University of Regina, Leeds University, Ecole Centrale Paris, Ensait, University of Technology Sydney, Belgium Nuclear Research Center, Ghent University, Hasselt University, National University of Singapore, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Macau University and many famous companies, e.g., Microsoft, Google, IBM, Facebook, HP, Cisco.

 The experts at home and abroad are invited for academic exchange more than 20 times each year. CCIT has held 2 international conferences and 3 international symposia, hosted 2 international conferences and 1 national conference and co-hosted 7 international conferences with Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shenzhen University, University of Technology Sydney, Hasselt University and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, respectively. Its members have been invited to deliver 10 keynotes and 3 tutorials at international conferences and 2 keynotes at national conferences as well as more than 10 times speeches at universities at home and abroad.
